Art on a Postcard
10 November 2015
Art on a Postcard raises money for The Hepatitis C Trust.
The Hepatitis C Trust is the national UK charity for hepatitis C. It was founded and is now led and run by people with personal experience of hepatitis C and almost all of our Board, staff and volunteers either have hepatitis C or have had it and cleared it after treatment.
Historically, hepatitis C has been neglected, partly because there has been no concerted patient voice. People with hepatitis C have typically kept quiet because it is infectious and because it has been wrongly stigmatised as ‘a drug users’ disease’.
The Trust is committed to changing this, by:
- raising public awareness that this is a virus that can be contracted in many ways
- ending discrimination against people living with hepatitis C
- creating an active community of patients willing to stand up and be heard
- providing information, support and representation for people with hepatitis C
We ran our first Art on a Postcard fundraising event in November 2014. We held a secret postcard auction at Whitfield Fine Art with works by well-known artists including Damien Hirst, Gilbert and George, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Marc Quinn, Jeremy Deller, Cecily Brown and Gavin Turk and emerging talent such as Hannah Hewetson, Hayden Kays and Cosmo Sarson as well as urban art from Xenz, Hush and Pure Evil. We also had photographers such as Dougie Wallace and Joycelin Bain Hogg.
The event was a huge success capturing the imagination of the public and artists alike. On the back of the goodwill and interest we received we have gone on to develop the idea and we will be doing a series of pop ups throughout 2015 starting with Art Car Boot Fair. Our flagship secret auction will be back in November this year at Soho Revue Gallery in Greek Street.
